Historic Battlefields. The area is the site of four major Civil War battlefields; Fredericksburg Battlefield, Chancellorsville Battlefield, Spotsylvania Courthouse Battlefield, and Wilderness Battlefield. While each is the site of a major battle, Chancellorsville is probably the most well remembered Confederate victory. And, while they won the battle, the cost of victory to the Confederates was considerable. It was here that one of their greatest military leaders, Stonewall Jackson, was fatally wounded.
Old Town. The Old Town Fredericksburg Historic has its roots as a colonial marketplace and trade center for the colonies. It was the boyhood home of George Washington and housed 3 other presidents over the nation's history. With over 120 small businesses, the store choices are many including restaurants, local shops featuring art, gifts, antiques, fine furnishings, flowers, stationary, books, toys, jewelry, and many other offerings.
Central Park Shopping Complex. Located just off Interstate 95 at Exit 130B, it's more than a simple mall, with block after block of stores lining Fredericksburg's Central Park. Fortunately, despite the abundance of stores, they are all within walking distance from one another other. You'll find your token Wal-Mart, Best Buy, & Lowe's, but there are many specialty stores as well. The most recent addition is the very popular regional supermarket, Wegmans.
Golf Courses. With many private and public courses dotting its landscape, the Fredericksburg area is home to two award winning public courses, Cannon Ridge and Augustine Golf clubs. These courses have garnered awards from Golf Digest as well as Golf Week magazine.
